Social Mind is a Civil Society organization based in Athens- Greece, committed to empower individuals live healthy lives. It works alongside people with mental disorders, disadvantaged groups and vulnerable populations, taking action and bearing witness in order to improve their wellbeing and promote respect for their dignity and fundamental rights.
Main thematic areas can be divided into two key categories:
Good Health and Well-being:
A clear distinction is often made between ‘mind’ and ‘body’. But when considering mental health and physical health, the two should not be thought of as separate.
Focus areas include:
•Substance abuse, including narcotic drug abuse and harmful use of alcohol.
•Mental Health including anxiety, depression post-traumatic stress disorder and suicide
•HIV / AIDS prevention measures and harm reduction practices
•Health and Sports role in enhancing physical and mental well-being
•Analyzing Aging with a view to reduce the burden of illness, enhance quality of life, and maintain health among older adults.
Just and Inclusive societies:
Social Mind’s main objective in the field of Social Affairs is to improve progress towards a more social Europe. Against the background of our European social fabric which has been seriously damaged by the economic crisis and by the effects of one-sided austerity policies, Social Mind advocates for a policy change that puts social consolidation back at the heart of EU policies
Focus Areas include:
•Quality Employment including the protection of labour rights and the promotion of safe and secure working environments for all workers, including young individuals and migrant workers, in particular women migrants, and those in precarious employment
•Inclusive and Quality Education and Training, by ensuring that all learners acquire the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development, including, among others, through education for human rights, gender equality, promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence, European citizenship and appreciation of cultural diversity
•Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment by eliminating all forms of violence against all women and girls in the public and private spheres, including trafficking and sexual and other types of exploitation and by providing women and girls with equal access to education, health care, decent work, and representation in political and economic decision-making processes.
Social Mind provides:
Research:
We conduct scientific reflection, study and information on social, health and psychosocial rehabilitation issues. For Social Mind this also means the production of evidence and knowledge that is high-quality yet ‘fit for purpose’. We champion research that can bring about real change for civil society, working with academics, experts in mental health and social issues, policy- and practice-oriented researchers to ensure that research initiatives are relevant and that findings are accessible and useful.
Education, Training and Workshops
We develop free face to face and on-line educational and training resources on sustainable development targeting health and social issues and offer them as a global public good. In collaboration with our Partners we tailor training courses to the learning needs of participants, and provide the option of individual coaching sessions with the trainer.
Our team of social workers, health care professionals and legal practitioners are all committed to fostering a meaningful, peaceful, and just world in which every individual enjoys physical, mental and social health
